DMCA Policy
Last updated: June 10, 2026 Version: 2026-06-10
So You Sew respects the intellectual property of others and expects users of the Service to do the same. This DMCA Policy describes how we handle claims of copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"), 17 U.S.C. §512.
1. Designated agent
Our designated copyright agent is:
So You Sew — Copyright Agent
Email: chambersjohn310@gmail.com
Email is the fastest and preferred way to reach our agent.
2. How to submit a takedown notice (rights-holder)
If you believe content on So You Sew infringes a copyright you own or are authorized to enforce, send a written notice to chambersjohn310@gmail.com that includes all of the following (required by 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3)):
- A physical or electronic signature of the owner or authorized agent.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed, or a representative list if multiple works.
- Identification of the infringing material on So You Sew with enough detail for us to locate it — ideally a deep link or username plus a screenshot.
- Your contact information — name, mailing address, phone, email.
- A good-faith belief statement: "I have a good-faith belief that the use of the material complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law."
- An accuracy and authority statement under penalty of perjury: "I swear, under penalty of perjury, that the information in this notice is accurate and that I am the copyright owner, or am authorized to act on the owner's behalf, with respect to an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed."
Send your notice to chambersjohn310@gmail.com. We may share your notice (including your contact information) with the user who posted the content to comply with §512.
3. What happens after a valid notice
If your notice is complete and apparently valid, we will:
- Remove or disable access to the identified material expeditiously.
- Notify the user who posted it, and forward your notice.
- Record a strike against the user under our Community & Marketplace Rules.
- Terminate accounts that we determine are repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances (typically 3 distinct DMCA strikes within 12 months).
4. How to submit a counter-notice (user whose content was removed)
If you believe your content was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notice to chambersjohn310@gmail.com. Your counter-notice must include (required by 17 U.S.C. §512(g)):
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material removed and where it appeared before removal (the URL or screen).
- A good-faith statement under penalty of perjury: "I swear, under penalty of perjury, that I have a good-faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification."
- Your contact information — name, address, phone, email.
- A statement consenting to federal court jurisdiction in the judicial district where your address is located (or, if outside the U.S., any judicial district in which So You Sew may be found), and agreeing to accept service of process from the person who sent the original takedown notice.
If we receive a valid counter-notice, we will forward it to the original complainant. Unless we receive notice that the complainant has filed a court action within 10–14 business days, we may restore the removed content.
Submitting a false counter-notice is perjury and may expose you to liability under §512(f).
5. Repeat-infringer policy
We will, in appropriate circumstances, terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers. We consider a user a repeat infringer when they receive three or more valid DMCA takedowns in a rolling 12-month period, or fewer for severe or commercial-scale infringement. Termination is at our reasonable discretion and is not appealable through the in-app appeal process; affected users may pursue counter-notice procedures above.
6. Trademark and other IP
This Policy applies to copyright claims under the DMCA. For trademark, right-of-publicity, design-patent, or other IP claims, contact chambersjohn310@gmail.com with the equivalent information; we will evaluate and respond appropriately. We use the same strike framework.
7. False notices
Submitting a knowingly false DMCA notice is unlawful under §512(f) and may result in liability for damages and attorneys' fees. Please use this Policy in good faith.
