Terms of Service
Last updated: July 6, 2026 Version: 2026-07-06
1. Acceptance
These Terms are a binding contract between you and So You Sew ("So You Sew", "we", "us"). By creating an account, accessing the So You Sew mobile app or any related service (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, our Community & Marketplace Rules, our Refund & Dispute Policy, our Acceptable Use Policy, and, if you sell on the marketplace, our Marketplace Seller Agreement (collectively, the "Agreements"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use the Service on behalf of an entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity, and "you" refers to that entity.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction to enter into a binding contract or to buy or sell on the marketplace. If you are between 13 and the age of majority, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf. We may require age verification. We will delete accounts of anyone we learn is under 13.
3. Accounts and security
You are responsible for the security of your credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to: (a) provide accurate, current information; (b) keep your credentials confidential; (c) notify us immediately at chambersjohn310@gmail.com of unauthorized use; (d) not impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation. We may suspend or terminate accounts for any breach.
4. Your content and license to So You Sew
The Service lets you create, share, comment on, and react to content including posts, photos, captions, comments, boards, pins, messages, listings, project journals, and stash entries ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content.
By submitting User Content you grant So You Sew a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license (sub-licensable only to the service providers that help us run the Service, such as hosting and image processing) to host, store, reproduce, modify (for technical purposes like resizing), publish, distribute, and display that User Content solely to operate, provide, and improve the Service. The license lasts as long as the User Content remains on the Service, except that backup and audit copies may persist for a commercially reasonable period after deletion.
We will never use your User Content for marketing, advertising, or promotion — on or off the Service — and we will never sell it or share it with anyone else for their marketing. Your posts, photos, listings, and projects are yours; they appear only where you put them in the app.
You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights in your User Content and that it does not violate any third-party right or law.
5. Acceptable use and prohibited content
We enforce a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive behavior, in line with App Store §1.2 and Play Console UGC requirements. You will not, and will not permit others to, post, transmit, or facilitate any of the following:
- Objectionable content: hate speech, harassment, bullying, threats, doxxing, content that promotes self-harm.
- Sexual or violent content: nudity, sexually explicit material, gratuitously violent or graphic imagery.
- Illegal content: content that infringes intellectual property, content that depicts illegal acts, content that violates export controls.
- Counterfeit, stolen, or recalled goods, or prohibited marketplace items (see the Community & Marketplace Rules).
- Fraud and deception: scams, impersonation, fake reviews, fake tracking numbers, off-platform payment requests, phishing.
- Spam and abuse: unsolicited promotion, automated scraping, vulnerability exploitation.
- Private information of others: contact info, IDs, financial info, anything else without consent.
You can report content from a long-press or "•••" menu on any screen, and you can block users. We aim to review reports within 24 hours and remove content that violates these Terms. We may remove content, restrict features, suspend or terminate accounts, hold or reverse payouts, and report violations to law enforcement, in our reasonable discretion and without prior notice when necessary to prevent imminent harm.
6. Marketplace — platform role and seller responsibility
The Service includes a peer-to-peer marketplace for physical sewing-related goods (fabric, notions, patterns, tools, finished items). So You Sew is a platform and intermediary; we are not a party to the sale between buyer and seller, and we do not take title to listed goods. Sellers list, price, accurately describe, package, and ship their own inventory. Buyers buy directly from sellers.
So You Sew facilitates: (a) listing and discovery; (b) payment processing through Stripe Connect, which acts as the regulated payment processor; (c) a structured dispute and refund workflow (see the Refund & Dispute Policy); and (d) trust-and-safety enforcement (suspension, listing removal, payout holds and reversals).
Sellers agree to the Marketplace Seller Agreement and are solely responsible for: legality, accuracy, condition, and authenticity of their listings; fitness for purpose; shipping and fulfillment within the timeline they advertise; collection and remittance of any taxes; and compliance with all laws (including consumer-protection, product-safety, and import/export laws) in any jurisdiction they ship from or to.
Buyers are responsible for: providing accurate shipping information; reading listings carefully; using the dispute process before initiating chargebacks; and complying with import laws in their jurisdiction.
We may suspend listings, suspend accounts, remove content, hold or reverse payouts, or refund buyers when, in our reasonable judgment, doing so is necessary to enforce these Terms, comply with law, prevent fraud, or protect the community.
7. Fees
So You Sew charges sellers a platform fee on each completed transaction, disclosed in the seller dashboard and currently set at 5% of subtotal plus shipping. Stripe's card-processing fees are additional and disclosed at checkout. We may change fees with at least 30 days' notice for active sellers; fee changes do not apply to in-flight orders.
8. Payments, payouts, and holds
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. and its affiliates. Buyers' card data is collected by Stripe; we do not see or store full card numbers. Sellers are paid out to Stripe Connect accounts they own. By using the Service, you also agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement and the Stripe Services Agreement.
Payout timing. So You Sew operates delayed payouts: funds from buyer payments are held on the seller's Stripe Connect balance and released to the seller's bank on a schedule determined by the seller's risk tier and order status. New sellers typically wait 14 days after the buyer confirms delivery; established sellers wait 3 days. See the Marketplace Seller Agreement for current windows.
Holds and reversals. We may hold or reverse seller payouts (including by reversing a Stripe transfer or initiating a refund to the buyer) when we have a reasonable belief that the seller has engaged in fraud, misrepresentation, non-delivery, or other violation; when a buyer opens a dispute; when Stripe notifies us of a chargeback; or when required by law.
9. Disputes and refunds
We provide a multi-step dispute resolution flow (buyer-seller resolution → escalation to So You Sew → platform decision). Full details are in the Refund & Dispute Policy. Initiating a credit-card chargeback before completing the in-app dispute process may result in account suspension; we may also defend chargebacks using evidence we collect through the Service.
10. Intellectual property
So You Sew owns the Service itself, including the app, our code, designs, trademarks, and "So You Sew" branding. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, sell, or create derivative works of the Service.
Copyright (DMCA). We respect intellectual property and respond to valid copyright notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. See the DMCA Policy for our designated agent and notice format. Repeat infringers will have accounts terminated.
Trademarks. "So You Sew" and our logo are trademarks of So You Sew. You may not use them without our prior written permission.
Feedback. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use them without restriction.
11. Third-party services
The Service integrates with third parties including Stripe (payments), Supabase (hosting/storage), Apple and Google (push notifications, app distribution), PostHog (analytics), and others listed in the Privacy Policy. Their terms and policies apply to your use of those services.
12. Termination
By you. You may stop using the Service at any time. You may delete your account from Settings → Delete account. We retain order records and other data as described in the Privacy Policy.
By us. We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Service, or remove content, at any time and without prior notice if we reasonably believe you have violated the Agreements, posed a risk to us or to others, or as required by law. We may also terminate accounts that are inactive for an extended period. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 6, 8–10, 13–17) will survive.
13. Disclaimers — no warranty
THE SERVICE AND ANY GOODS PURCHASED FROM OTHER USERS THROUGH THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. SO YOU SEW DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY USER CONTENT OR LISTING IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR LAWFUL. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW DISCLAIMERS OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES; THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
14. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SO YOU SEW AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUES, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE WERE ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (a) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100) OR (b) THE TOTAL FEES YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES; THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU TO THAT EXTENT.
15. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless So You Sew, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of (a) your User Content, (b) your sales or purchases on the marketplace, (c) your violation of the Agreements, (d) your violation of any law or third-party right.
16. Dispute resolution; arbitration; class-action waiver
Informal resolution. Before filing a claim against So You Sew, you agree to try to resolve it informally by emailing chambersjohn310@gmail.com with a description of the dispute. The parties will negotiate in good faith for at least 30 days.
Binding arbitration. If informal resolution fails, any dispute arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, in the county where you live or, if no AAA office is reasonably available, in the State of Alabama, U.S.A. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction. Either party may seek small-claims relief in any court of competent jurisdiction in lieu of arbitration.
Class-action waiver. YOU AND SO YOU SEW WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO BRING OR PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. Disputes must be brought in your individual capacity only.
Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing chambersjohn310@gmail.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with subject "Arbitration Opt-Out".
Exceptions. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking equitable relief (such as an injunction) in court to protect intellectual property or to enforce the Acceptable Use Policy.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, U.S.A., excluding its conflict-of-laws rules, except that the Federal Arbitration Act governs Section 16. The U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
18. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced in-app and (if you have an email on file) by email at least 14 days before taking effect. By continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.
19. Notices and contact
Notices to So You Sew may be sent to chambersjohn310@gmail.com. We may give notices to you in-app, by email, or by push notification to your device.
For trust and safety, privacy, or copyright matters, use the same address with a subject line describing the issue (for copyright, see the DMCA Policy).
20. Miscellaneous
These Terms, together with the other Agreements, are the entire agreement between you and So You Sew about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger or sale. No agency, partnership, or employment relationship is created.
